A graduate of Wellesley College with a major in psychology, Sandra Guryan earned a Masters of Education in Counseling before serving as a guidance counselor for four years in Massachusetts, Virginia, and New Jersey. This opportunity to work with elementary, middle and high school students has proved invaluable in her educational administration career.

Following her work as a school counselor, Ms. Guryan earned an M.B.A. degree at the Simmons College Graduate School of Management and began her financial management career at a computer company in the Boston area. In 1988, Ms. Guryan returned to education as the Director of Business and Finance for the Lynnfield Public Schools, utilizing her business background as well as her earlier work in counseling. Her work in Lynnfield included all aspects of school finance and operations including budget, facilities management, food service, transportation, and capital projects.

Ms. Guryan is Past President of the Massachusetts Association of School Business Officials (MASBO).  From 1992 to 1998, Ms. Guryan served as Director of Business and Finance in the Lexington Public Schools before joining the Newton Schools in 1998  as Assistant Superintendent for Business, Finance, and Planning, and in September, 2010 was named  Deputy Superintendent/Chief Administrative Officer. In her new capacity, Ms. Guryan oversees Business and Finance, Operations, Food Services and Human Resources.
