As in prior years, it is the intention of the Newton Public Schools that no student should be excluded from fee-based activities due to inability to pay. Families may apply for a fee waiver based on financial hardship so that no student is denied participation in school-sponsored activities and bus transportation. Waivers are based on income and family size as well as special circumstances such as unforeseen medical problems, change in family status, change in employment status, other emergencies, or temporary hardships. All waiver applications are confidential. Financial waivers do not apply to high school parking.

MIDDLE SCHOOL STUDENT ACTIVITIES

$60 or $100 per student

This is a one time annual fee that covers the full array of school-sponsored student activities. The base fee of $60 covers participation in any Triple E activities during the academic year.  The $100 fee covers participation in any Trip E activities, plus participation in any dramatic productions. The fee is due at the beginning of the year.

$150 per student per production ($450 annual per participant cap)

This fee applies to all performers and participants.  The fee is due prior to the each dramatic production throughout the year.

Fee Supercap

The School Committee has set an overall cap on fees, so that no family will pay more than $1,200 per year. Because the bus fee applications will be required before the opening of school, no family will pay more than $620 for busing. The remainder of the cap will apply to all other fees except for:
  • Elementary Early Morning Program
  • High School Parking
  • Preschool Tuition
  • School Lunch
The school administration maintains records of payment for each student/family so that individual caps or the family supercap can be applied appropriately.  If you have reached the supercap, please contact the Department of Business, Finance & Planning at 617-559-9025.
