Assistant Superintendent for Student Services

As a speech/language pathologist for 26 years, Dr. Levin-Charns provided services to preschool, elementary, middle, and high school age students in the Winchester and Wellesley Public Schools. In addition to providing speech/language services at the preschool and elementary levels, she also served as a SPED Team chairperson at the elementary level for 19 years in the Wellesley Public Schools. Dr. Levin-Charns joined the Sharon Public Schools in 2002 as Director of Student Services, becoming an Assistant Superintendent in July 2007. She came to Newton in August 2008 as an Assistant Superintendent for Student Services. Dr. Levin-Charns graduated with a BA in Psychology from SUNY at Stony Brook and earned both an MS in Speech/Language Pathology and an Ed.D. in Psycholinguistics from Boston University.

The Newton Parent Advisory Council on Special Education (PAC) serves as a parent resource and a liaison between parents and the administration. It provides a forum for parents to meet each other and with school department staff to discuss special education concerns, strategies and programs.
The Newton Parent Advisory Council for Special Education has published a brochure for parents.
