Prior to becoming Superintendent in Newton on July 1, 2010, David Fleishman served as the Superintendent of Schools for five years in Chappaqua, NY. Previously, he was the Assistant Superintendent of Schools in Wellesley, MA and Assistant Superintendent for Human Resources in Ossining, NY.

Dr. Fleishman began his career in education as a social studies teacher in the New York City Public Schools. Earlier, he worked in government and non-profit organizations in both New York City and Washington, D.C. He has a doctorate in Educational Administration from Teacher College, Columbia University, a Masters degree in Administration, Planning and Social Policy from the Harvard Graduate School of Education, and a B.A. in Government from Connecticut College.
